Social Networking – Four “Unwritten” Rules

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Social networking is often categorized as one of the four key types of social media. Two social networking sites that most are familiar with are Facebook and MySpace.

Social networking is a very powerful tool. However, because of the power and influence of a community of people it is crucial that social networking is done correctly. Similar to a business referral group, there are some “unwritten” rules that generally apply to be successful. These “unwritten” rules include:

  1. Be a helper and contributor - Nobody likes the self-serving, out-for-yourself, “I’m looking for business and I’m looking for it now” type of person. Instead, be a contributor. Be helpful. Provide assistance. You will be seen as a credible expert and business will surely follow.
  2. Have an avatar that is at least semi-professional – If it would embarrass mom, it’s probably not the right selection.
  3. Pay attention to grammar, spelling and word selection – Networking sites such as Facebook may be a place where clients or potential clients frequent. Grammar and spelling matter in this competitive economy. Also, if someone sends you a bumper sticker or makes a post containing profanity, remove it. You’ll be glad you did.
  4. Be Discerning with Pictures you Post – Having pictures of you and your buddies getting drunk at the latest party probably doesn’t help you land that big client.

These are a few simple suggestions that should improve your performance in social networking sites. Social networking should be viewed similarly to “traditional” networking. If it is effective in the traditional networking circles, the same probably holds true in the social networking sites.

Make Money Online With a Zen-Cart Online Store – 4 Social Networks For Business

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Social Networks are great tools for business and also fun ways to meet and interact with people whose path you would not likely cross going about your usual day. You can also communicate directly with people whom you would likely find it very difficult, if not impossible, to reach using conventional means.

One important point to know is that these networks were not created as a place just for promoting your zen-cart online store. If your posts only focus on your store – if you engage in direct, endless promotions, you will not be an interesting person to follow, and if no-one is following you, you won’t have an audience for anything you want to say or share. You should give (tips, resources, responses to questions, etc.) more than you get (opportunities for talking about your online store and products).

However, it is possible to promote your zen-cart store if you sprinkle that in between your other posts. If you don’t abuse the self-promotions, you can attract visitors to your store. One great benefit to participating on these sites is others can get to know you. Word-of-mouth recommendations are popular on these sites. As you know, people like to do business with people they know so when you participate, you are opening your sphere of opportunities. Below I have given a short overview of four social networking sites. These are my favorites; in fact, you’re welcome to come follow me on Twitter and Facebook.

Facebook

Join groups to meet people in your target market. Business interest groups abound as do networks organized by city, region, school and workplace. You’ll find zen-cart groups and other business-related groups of interest. You can also connect with friends and keep up with them when they post updates, which will appear on your home page.

Twitter
One of the most interesting of the social networking site in that people communicate using only 140 spaces and characters. This means you must be concise with your message. You can follow anyone you like and/or they can follow you. When you post a message, it appears on the personal home page of everyone who is following you. Use it to keep up with issues, trends, influencers and other information that would be too time-consuming to gather using other means.

This site is especially nice in that you can customize the background and many have done so using their logo and website colors.

YouTube.com

Post videos on using products from your online store or “how to” instructions for installing or assembling, etc. and watch as you attract new users. Also great for viral marketing videos, the kind that pull at your heart strings, or make you laugh out loud. Include your store’s website address along with a call to action on the last screen and if it’s good enough, people will pass it around, increasing the exposure – and visits – to your online store.

Ryze
Designed for entrepreneurs and business professionals, this site has groups that you can easily join or you can start one of your own. Groups communicate using a forum-like setting. You can see the postings of members and respond to any of them. Great for meeting like-minded people for the purpose of sharing or exploring mostly business related topics.

While these groups generally do not allow blatant advertising, you can usually use your signature to include a link to your online store along with a tagline. Getting started with any of these sites is as simple as registering for a free account. Visit each one to learn more as they all have many additional features than I have mentioned, and you will find even more uses than are covered here. These sites are great for meeting new friends, keeping up with your interest areas, stumbling across breaking news and posting your own updates about your specialty area, as well as posts about your store (new products, sales, coupons, etc.). Social networking: It’s a great way to meet new friends and potential customers and clients, and for people to get to know – and recommend – you and your online store.

Beware of Insecure Social Connecting Websites – A True Story

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

I am not going to name that insecure website, which seemed to be an emerging high scrapper in online world and I feel no harm in accepting its success in the first five years of its arrival in Pakistan but where they got failed was lacking in security measurement area that user has to have in any case.

Back to the story, the problem was no secure process, everybody was allowed to poke his nose in my profile, writing in my area and commenting anything they want to (even I did it couple of times too, but not in any unethical way and that is for sure. Things we do for fun often become depressing situation for others, I realized)
Anyway, you will agree that in teen-aging phase, everybody tries to be a hero, a punster so I was, wink’. Commenting became a proper fight and I didn’t realize the situation until my photographs got hacked… sigh’

Long story short, that phase was extremely bad, mental torture, depression, handling norms and values which are again an asset of eastern person I went through…But, after some time things got solved and I decided to go somewhere I don’t have to concern about the security issues of my personal stuff, where nobody is allowed to read my gossips until I allow, where I can easily upload my friend’s get together, last days in college and birthday parties photos without giving a second thought to it.. Without social-fear and…

I am thousand times thankful to Facebook where I found these easy-to-use and hard-to-cheat apps and Now I am much relaxed, though bad time reminds me some bitter memories but on other hand I have learnt how to tackle road bumps and fight back with the bang;)
That was a true story of my friend whom I liked to share it with you guys and a little advice for you people, from now onwards be careful while throwing your personal stuff on such social-connecting web sites, as precautions are must dear.

Meet Girls on MySpace – 4 Things That You Can Do to Help Yourself Meet Someone on MySpace

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Trying to meet girls on MySpace or facebook is not as difficult as many people would have you believe. In the old days of ICQ and Yahoo Messenger people were meeting each other all the time. In fact, I have a friend who met a woman and married her, thanks to ICQ. How did he do it, and how are his lesson applicable to facebook or MySpace?

First, he did not have overly high expectations. He did not set out to meet his wife on the internet, he simply enjoyed meeting the girls that he did meet. He enjoyed meeting the guys that he met as well, he was a just a friendly guy who liked to chat and meet people.

Next, he did not pretend to be anything he was not. He knew that if a long-term relationship were to present itself, he did not want to be caught in a lie. It was important to him that women knew upfront his age, physical stature, education, income and lifestyle.

He prepared and treated ICQ as a hobby. In other words, when took time to put a picture of himself, a detailed description of himself and a detailed description of the type of person that he wanted to chat with. So if you are on MySpace for instance and you are looking to meet a woman, take the time to make sure that all your ducks are in a row.

Ensure that you have an accurate photograph. It can, of course, be a flattering one, just make sure that it is of you and it is up to date. He treated it like his meeting place. You would not go out to a bar without dressing nice and brushing your teeth or taking a shower. So would he not go on to ICQ without looking and being his best either.

As I cruise the internet, looking for peoples input in this matter, I read the words “creepy” and “stalker” a lot, but it does not have to be that way. If you are not creepy, and not a stalker then you will not be perceived as one.

Meeting girls on MySpace can be fun and exciting. You can also be very successful if you do it the right way.

Social Networking Sites, The Online Marketers’ Friend

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Online Marketers are people who recognize the need for multiple income streams, but many miss the opportunities to expand their business, that social networking sites afford them.  These sites can be used, but you must take care not to violate the rules set by the site admin.

For example, Tim is an online marketer who sells posters of bands.  He has set up a profile on Facebook.com and joined a group of fans of the band AC/DC.  In messages he noticed someone asking about the poster on his profile page.  He messages back that he has an extra one and he is willing to sell it for X$.  Tim makes sure the friend knows it a special price just for friends.  The friend buys the poster and Tim ships it to them.

When using a social site you must remember the site was designed to find people with common interests who may become friends.  The terms of service have no problem with one friend selling something to another friend, but I suggest always messaging to said friends after they buy, so they remain your friend and, as we know, once a customer they are possibly a repeat customer.

The key to this transaction is, it’s a friend selling a poster to a friend.  This requires the art of Selling without looking like you are selling.  One mistake to avoid is sending a group message offering posters for sale.  This action constitutes SPAM and we already know what they do to SPAMers.
