For many people, they have grown up thinking that companies like Gerber, Kellogg’s and other manufacturers of products have been around since the dark ages. But the truth is that there are countless numbers of companies that sprung up right in time to be ahead of the curve of the baby boomer generation. Nineteen years with over 75 million births!

Four million of those people died before the year 2000 but immigration made up for that pushing the number back up to just short of 80 million people. So when reference is made to over 70 million people it means just short of 80 million. Or might I just say “just short of 80 million”?

Now if companies like Gerber, Kellogg’s and other huge manufacturers made their billions (many times over) on baby boomer’s, how is it that a new generation of enterprising people can make millions on baby boomer’s when they retire? What do retired people do? They play lots of Bingo (hint #1). They do lots of rode trips (hint #2). And they do things like travel and take cruises (hint #3).

All you have to do is look at what retired people are doing today and you can see what the baby boomer’s will be doing when they retire. There will even be many baby boomer’s who retire and even though they don’t have a full time job any more, the will still find a way to make money to supplement their retirement income.

And if boomer’s are really resourceful, they will end up making more money in their retirement years then they did working. You don’t have to look very far to find people who have worked all their life at a job they hate or at the very least don’t like very much. They only worked where they were because it was a “stable” job.

But once these boomer’s are free of a job that they are not happy with and didn’t really give it their all, they can then move on to something they do enjoy and put 100% of their energy behind it.

I for one have waited many long years to see the world. And part of my retirement is going to be traveling to other countries as well as taking relaxing cruises to the islands off of Florida and through the waters of the Alaskan shorelines. And I already have a plan in place to earn more money then I have since I started working at 14 years old with my paper route until now.

I have always loved to travel but most of what I have done is taking rode trips across the country and moving to different states for short periods of time. I am going to be free to travel the world now. The country is in a recession with little hope of a complete and total recovery for years to come. Any recovery in the USA is going to be in select industries which will be the key to a families financial recovery is going to be in finding which industries are on the climb.

I have already given three hints that can be targeted for research to figure out where one can place their attention. If I were going to put my money on anything, the travel industry would be my first choice. With just under 80 million people having lots of free time on their hands, this industry is gong to be one of the silos where financial recovery occurs first.

A high percentage of boomer’s will be capitalizing on their chance to see the world and those that tap into this industry as a way to earn money will be like the Gerber’s, Kellogg’s and others of the 50s & 60s. RICH!

Is the Web For People Over 50?

We tend to associate the internet with some of the bigger social media websites these days. And sites like Myspace or Facebook may have been originally built with younger visitors in mind. But even these sites have been invaded by older people these days, and they are great places to hook up with new contacts and old friends. Far from being silly teenybopper hangouts, they have turned into networks that help people connect with others, and they also help businesses connect with potential customers of all ages.

Benefits of The Internet For Older People

Seniors can benefit from their internet connections in a variety of ways. It is a great way to keep in contact with others, especially for people who are not very mobile. Online groups can arouse interest in old and new activities. Online government websites, like medicare.gov, can help seniors find answers to important questions. Banking and bill paying websites can help people keep finances in order in a way that is much simpler than it was in the old days.

In fact, a team of UCLA scientists have performed studies that show internet surfing actually stimulates key brain centers that are related to decision making and complex reasoning. Since most of us worry about brain function decline as we age, it is important to find activities to keep us engaged.

If you participate in the care of a senior citizen, or if you just visit mom and dad on the holidays, a computer and internet connection may be a great suggestion for them. A decade ago, it was complex and expensive to find online resources. But now it is very easy. If young kids can do it, an experienced older person can certainly learn to do it too.

Where Can Older People Start Surfing?

As I mentioned before, there are obvious benefits to online banking and business. But just for fun, you might point a middle aged or older person to some social websites. Many middle aged people are already turning to sites like Faceook to catch up with family and classmates. These websites have lots of tools to help them find people, and they also have an easy way to contact them and stay updated. These tools can really enrich a person’s life too.

Other news sites can help older people keep up with issues that concern them. You can find news oriented websites that cater to baby boomers and seniors, and users get together to post current postings on subjects like Medicare, health, and politics. Since the main focus of these websites is older people, it is easy to become engaged in them. And since these types of sites actually allow the members to post, you may find that grandma or Uncle Bob becomes an active and productive contributor to the web!

Free blogging services are also getting more and more popular. I have known many middle aged and older people who have taken the opportunity to start their own blog! They can post articles about subjects that interest them, from art to business, and in turn, can help other people. This is a great activity, and these services are as easy to use as email.

Older people are online, and you should help an older person you know enjoy the web.

When our family would visit my mother in-law in Sun City, we referred to it as the Golden Prison. It was designed to be a playground for retirees. The original community was built in the early 1960’s, and we would drive there in the 1980’s. Many of the original owners where getting on in age. It always struck me as odd that we never saw people out and about, other than going to stores and restaurants. My mother in-law lived in a condominium surrounding a courtyard. In all the time we were there, I never saw any of her twenty or so neighbors.

Baby boomers are looking for a new retirement. They want to experience life to its fullest, but that than can be a challenge. People don’t realize how difficult the transition to retirement can be. After enjoying the first few months of the new vacation, apathy can easily turn into depression.

There are three evils that you must fight against during the first months of retirement. Acknowledge if you have adopted any of these and then start to follow simple steps to turn your retirement around.

1. Indifference – Have you become indifferent about what happens to you, your spouse, family members the community you life or the world around you? Begin to find something that you care about. Be willing to explore and try on new activities if you don’t have any hobbies or other interests.

2. Escapism – The biggest myth about retirement is the idea of relaxation being the primary goal. Happiness and fulfillment come from being engaged, connected and involved in meaningful activities. Are you indulging in addictive behavior; watching too much television, eating or drinking to excess, shopping out of boredom? What gets you riled up and excited, even passionate? If you were to die today, what would you want your legacy to be? These are not are easy questions to answer. It’s not an easy process, but the willingness to look at what you’re doing to sabotage your life is the first step to the journey.

3. Resignation – A cynical assumption that nothing can be done. You might not be able to change the world. But, you can control how you show up in it and you can change many things about your corner of it. A big part of a successful retirement transition is saying good-by to your old life. Youth and vigor may be gone, but they can be replaced by quiet and thoughtful wisdom.

If you are guilty of any of the items above, accept that retirement is not easy. It takes work and effort. Realize you are part of the first group of people in the history of man to live in this amazing period of life. Just like all the other transitions you made before, there are growing pains, challenges to confront, but ultimately rewards to be had.

Don’t give up!

The Baby Boomers are best known for the non-conformity of the 1960s when they stood up to a government and a society that they found oppressive. It comes as no surprise that the Baby Boomers continue to redefine what it means to stand up and say no in today’s world through their fight against unfair healthcare fees in the United States.

More than ever before, Baby Boomers are flooding south into Mexico hospitals for procedures ranging from the complex and cutting edge to some of the oldest standards that medicine has to offer. In fact, some are even choosing to receive checkups during medical travel to Mexico rather than maintaining a regular doctor stateside. These changes save Baby Boomers hundreds or even thousands of dollars in medical bills every year, even after considering the low cost of airfare between the U.S. and the Mexico hospitals in question.

Financial Wisdom: Lower Costs across the Border

In America, any doctor has to contend with a myriad of financial constraints that threaten his or her practice and livelihood. Insurance agencies have a large industry presence, crowding out doctors that try to avoid participating in the insurer’s costly plans. The result is rising prices for the patient, and increased co-pay amounts due to lower insurance coverage. In short, the amount covered by insurance is falling just as the amount charged by doctors and hospitals is rising. For many Baby Boomers, retirement expenses do not allow them to cover this gap.

Luckily, there are hospitals available just across the border. With medical travel in Mexico, these men and women are able to get the care they need without paying too much for it. They are able to maintain their health without completely losing control of their finances. The main differences between Mexico hospitals and U.S. facilities are the control that insurance companies have over the market and the general cost of living in the area.

In Mexico, the medical care industry is not dominated by private insurance or the publicly traded corporations behind it. Doctors are free to set prices as they choose, based upon what they believe their services are worth. There is no upward pressure on prices, and so they remain at a reasonable level. The best hospitals typically charge 40%-60% less than the best American hospitals, and 90% of medical travel patients reported in a survey by the Medical Travel Association that the level of care offered was not only comparable to the US, but many times superior.. Because of the way Mexican health care is structured, doctors are less burdened and thus able to pass on the good prices to medical travelers.

Lower cost of living also plays a role. Doctors tend to charge partially based on what they need to survive, and on what their practice needs in order to stay abreast of the latest technology. In Mexico hospitals, all these costs are lower. From the cost of medical school education to building construction, wages and daily utilities, to some of the most recent equipment technology purchases, Mexican doctors pay less, and medical travel in Mexico reflects those savings as well.

Skilled Surgeons

One of the strengths Baby Boomers are noticing in Mexico hospitals is their ability to offer cutting edge treatments, such as spinal stabilization surgery and multifocal LASIK for presbyopia. Many of the doctors these Boomers choose have actually trained alongside the leading U.S. experts, and have the same degree of skill. The Boomers are getting the same quality of care, but because they choose medical travel in Mexico, the cost is tens of thousands of dollars lower.

A Comfortable Place to Recover

In the past, some Boomers might have been concerned to spend the night so far from home. But as hospitals have continued to develop, they have become almost indistinguishable from any American hospital. Spending the night after medical travel in Mexico is no different from the night after a surgery stateside, the only difference is that home is a plane ride away rather than a car trip.

However, few Boomers seem to be bothered by the idea of distance. In fact, many report better treatment in private Mexico hospitals than in U.S. facilities. Staff is said to be more attentive, doctors more caring, and nurses more focused, with a lower ratio of nurses to patients. Overall, medical travel in Mexico produces as many positive responses in the Boomers as medical treatment in the U.S. and in many cases produces far more.

The Big Picture

The Baby Boomers are the first aging generation to have access to the excellent private Mexico hospitals provided by medical travel in Mexico, and they are taking full advantage of everything that America’s southern neighbor has to offer. From dental care to checkups to major surgery, the Baby Boomers are filling Mexico’s state-of-the-art medical facilities and reaping the rewards. And in the face of rising costs at home, it seems unlikely that they will be returning to their local doctors any time soon.

I have never believed in global warming. I’m not smart enough to know the science, I just don’t think God needs our help. To me, it’s a money grab by unethical people (some scientists and some politicians).

Now, that global warming crowd has stepped in a steaming pile of you know what. The truth eventually comes out on all of these schemes and now we see what was behind the big screen… a pack of lies.

Evidence now shows that testing results that ruined the global warming theories have been hidden from the public (gee, what a surprise!). How arrogant these people are.

Actually, these types of hoaxes have been going on for years in one form or another. When I was in college, Paul Ehrlich wrote “The Population Bomb” which caused much gnashing of teeth among the “we have to save the world” crowd. His writings warned of world wide death and destruction that would have catastrophic results all over the globe because there would no longer be enough food for distribution.

What a pile of crap. Nothing happened. We were warned about global warming in the 70’s and 80’s. Shortly thereafter, we were warned about global cooling. We have been warned that all sea life will die due to pollution. Nothing ever comes of these scares.

And guess what. There will soon be some other hoax that people will buy into that will sell books and movies and various documentaries. We Boomers are not immune to this stuff but we are a harder sell because of what we have seen through out our lifetimes. We have already seen several of these fraudulent ideas gain a foothold before being debunked.

The real issue is the ongoing hoax that we are some how doomed. We are going to perish because of (pick your favorite cause). What an insult to our Creator.
