Going to magic shows and experiencing the amazing stunts of the magicians is a way of life for many children. Magicians such as Vitelli and Kris Angel base their routine and shows off of science and art. Magic combines the two disciplines and creates an experience unlike any other. The production of magic is an intense and thrilling experience, however; sitting in the audience is equally heart throbbing. While the audience stares in amazement trying to figure out how they created the illusions, Vitelli seeks to enter their psychological systems and focus their attention to a specific part of the stage.
There are two techniques that Vitelli and others use during their magic: transformation and vanishing. These are two essential elements that have been in the magic industry for decades. While the general ideas are still the same, the way in which they are executed has been helped by the invention of modern technology. A magic show these days is full of lights, sounds, and crazy special effects. While these effects are nice, there wouldn’t be a show without the fundamental principles of magic.
Vitelli utilizes the technique of transformation during his shows. This is the process of changing an otherwise intangible object. For example, he might change the color of a handkerchief, transform a woman into a tiger, or turn a grown man into a toddler. A transformation is the ultimate illusion because it implements a variety of magical, scientific, and artistic theories. Vitelli uses this to his benefit, executing such maneuvers while focusing and transforming the audience’s thoughts. Keeping the audience focused can ensure that he can execute the stunt safely.
While transformation utilizes an element of vanishing, this is the technique that makes things disappear from the stage. For example, Vitelli can make a coin disappear or have a cage full of birds vanish by the snap of a finger. The vanish technique is even used to make audience members and assistants disappear from a cabinet, box, or closet. The vanishing technique has been around for centuries but it took idols such as Siegfried and Roy to execute these stunts.

“What is baptism,” asked the priest, “if not rinsed in water before mankind, and thus an announcement made publicly to this event, that you are a Christian?”
“I am not baptized, and I am a Christian,” said the ten-year old boy (a Quaker).
“No,” replied the priest “you cannot be, nor anyone similar to you!” And he added after a moment’s thought, “this is near blasphemy!”
“If I let you throw water over me, over and upon my head, in public, you say then I am a Christian. Even an infant must have this done, who knows no better; for was it not King David that said-in essence, a child of no formal reasoning-as was his child-will be in paradise upon its death, and God said of David, ‘You are a man after my heart.’”
“But Jesus himself was baptized,” said the priest.
“No,” said the boy “never did such an event take place. That would make us soldiers of the Baptist, not of Christ, is this not so? Plus, it was just a demonstration (a symbol), for the weakness of mankind-who must see and be shown, outwardly, what has taken place inwardly.”
“Shame on you,” said the priest to the boy, “you’ll surely burn in hell!”
“Have you been circumcised?” asked the boy to the priest.
“No,” remarked the priest, “I have not.”
“Well,” said the boy, “I have and so was Christ-for all Jews were of his day, perhaps that places you into the same category you’ve placed me!” And the boy added to that, “In those far-off days, pre-Christians did both: circumcision and baptism. It is what’s proclaimed in the heart and mind, that binds one to Christ, water is a public announcement, to show and tell, and that is all.”
“But it is a custom,” said the priest.
“To do well, you must do as Christ did, tie the hands of tradition, against doing evil against man. You see the man on the cross, was not saved by water, but by faith in Jesus that when he expired, he’d be with him in paradise. So you see custom is superseded by faith alone.”
“Very well,” said the priest, “I am a Christian baptized, and you are one circumcised.

Note: The author believes one should get baptized if the Lord allows time and a place or it; and if you hear such a calling. But one’s salvation is not based upon that, it is by grace through faith, one is saved.

Teleporting isn’t just for sci-fi movies anymore. While these terms may seem like something out of a Star Trek movie, Vitelli has replaced Captain Kirk. Teleportation and escapology are two of the underlying techniques used by magicians such as Vitelli and Kris Angel. Magic has transformed into a futuristic and complex form of entertainment. Vitelli, like others, has held Las Vegas shows in which there are giant stages, lights, and all sorts of technology available. The foundational roots of magic, however; are held deep within these techniques. Teleportation is perhaps one of the most complex maneuvers, but offers the most rewarding experience.
Teleportation is when a magician “transports” someone to another location without moving a muscle. For example, a ring suddenly disappears from the table and is found in a sandwich. Or an assistant is suddenly found sitting in the audience. Teleportation can occur on many levels, however; they almost always are a result of an illusion. An illusion is the process in which Vitelli uses to distract the audience while he performs something that is “larger than life.” He deceives the audience by showing something that is “impossible” to perform.
Vitelli, like the magicians Copperfield and Blaine, has taken his performances to the next level by implementing escapology into his routine. How do you explain to an audience how the man in a closed box suddenly appears in the audience while the box remains closed? Lucky for Vitelli, he doesn’t have to explain. Audiences watch in utter amazement, trying to figure out how he did it! As a magician Vitelli strives to distract the audience and prevent them from trying to figure out how the stunt was performed. Magic is based upon secrets that are learned or passed down from family to family.
There are many examples of how magicians such as Vitelli demonstrate this concept. The straightjacket is a simple maneuver in which an audience member is placed in a straightjacket, yet manages to escape. Safety is the biggest concern with escaping maneuvers, thus audience members are only used in safe situations. Magicians such as Kris Angel have been known to place themselves in death traps or other dangerous situations. While the adrenaline may help them, it is escapology that saves their life.

A Story of the Virgin Mary
So something happened somewhere between that stone little house built over two-thousand years ago, and that special garden-court, on both sides of the road, on the hilltop in the city of Ephesus, this one morning. Except that if I ever really knew, exactly knew what it was, it wasn’t going to be Mary’s fault (if I didn’t tell it right, so why tell it at all?) I mean, I might have know or anyway had a good idea of what took place, happened (as unbelievable as it was)-while the tourist group I was with was walking down the path, the hill after I remained as if frozen in step in the garden that brisk morning-going towards the bus-I knew someday I’d tell it, probably would have to tell it to somebody. Just to get some rest, finality from it.
What I wouldn’t know would be just how it happened because when I come to tell it, I wouldn’t have told it until now-thirteen-years later, thinking it wouldn’t much matter what took place, somebody, anybody reading this story, it wouldn’t much matter because whoever read it would, they would say as they have said in the past “Why you?” Thus, the only one needing or expecting to understand it was me, and now that I look back, it never occurred to me to write this brief story until now.
On the hilltop in the city of Ephesus, after walking in the stone little house I had come to visit, the very house Mary lived in (and Saint John, whom was told by Jesus Christ to take care of, lived in…) prior to her death, and after Christ’s crucifixion, I walked those stone floors, leaned over and touch those stone floors, where once Saint John and Mary walked, and a few other apostles (perhaps even Maria Magdalena).
Three in the sun lit garden one morning in November, of 1996, there I stood alone, everyone had left, and there I stood just far enough to see- unmistakably see, what I saw-perhaps one-hundred and twenty-five feet from what would be a stirring event (or awakening for me), the figure of a woman, in pure white mist-I was near stunned- from the ground up, as if my own will was paralyzing me-not wanting to move, as if the ground, sacred ground I was standing on (in the garden) had tranquilized me to the point of not wanting to move, all this entering every pore of my body. You don’t fully underhand such moments, you simply live them, and try later on to describe them, if indeed one can.
She, Mary (I say Mary because who else would it have been?), understood, because she never had no way of telling me because she didn’t know I saw there (call it instinct, premonition), because she never looked towards me-she was close-but not too close-to the house, in the garden, as if simply tending to whatever, perhaps enjoying the crisp morning due, wondering about.
And I just put this all away until now-or thirteen years later. No, I didn’t forget it I just put it away until later, until the need for it to come up without no more remembering-, for it is as if it happened just today.
