Why Use Permission Based Email Marketing?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

More and more people are using permission based email marketing to advertise their product. There are thousands of websites out there that collect the email addresses of people. Many of these companies then sort the addresses into target groups, and form lists. Other companies, and even individuals, then pay the company for a certain list. It sounds like a lot of work. So, why are companies doing it? The answer; profit!

Permission based email marketing has proven to be profitable. The main reason for this is because you are advertising to someone who has already expressed an interest. Even if they only took the time to look at a product; they did look. You have a better chance at selling that person a similar product than trying to sell the same product to someone who didn’t look. Your chances are even greater if you have more than one product of the same type.

For example; let’s say you are advertising in the weight loss industry. If you have a new diet plan, an exercise manual, and a new herbal remedy in weight loss you can advertise all three of your products. You are going to do this in separate emails of course, but your chances are good that you can sell them one of the three.

You can get a higher rate of returned customers with permission based email marketing too. If you have a product that is consumed, like creams or pills, you can use emails to send out a reminder. If you sell a face cream to someone and it only lasts about six weeks; chances are that they will buy it again if they get an email advertising the same product at week four or five. You will not be able to do this with every product, but if you can then you should. If they have already bought it once, it’s easier to get them to buy it again.

These are just some of the reasons people are using permission based email marketing. Of course, the main reason is profit. I have listed a couple ways to make profits with this marketing technique, but the possibilities are endless. There are always new strategies evolving as more and more people look to the web for making money. Since internet spending is still increasing even with the current economic crisis, chances are that it will only continue to grow. So, I doubt people will stop looking at the web anytime soon.

Quality Over Quantity – What Makes Email Marketing Work?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Wouldn’t it be lovely to have an email list of 1,000,000 subscribers? To most online marketers this would be a dream come true for them. On average the number of converting people who buy from a website is around 1%. 1% of one million people buying from you would be extremely nice wouldn’t it? However did you know that you could still become broke and ruin your internet business with a list this big if you’re not careful?

When it comes to email marketing and the act of building a list of prospects to email to, quality always far exceeds quantity. What good is 1,000 email subscribers when hardly anyone ever purchases from you when you send them an email about a special offer?

One of the best ways to maximize your profits in list building and email marketing is to pick and choose those who you want to join your mailing list. Of course you can’t interview everyone who lands on your web page and ask them if they are ready to buy or not. What you can do is set things up in such a way that only those who are willing and able to purchase from you will add themselves to your list.

Pay attention to the incentives that you offer to draw people to join your mailing list. Yes like others you probably use free reports, free audio courses or any number of things that may appeal to people. But what you must realize is that it has to be something that only those ready and able to buy would want. You wouldn’t offer a deep sea fishing guide to those who only fish in local lakes. Nor would you offer a free hair brush or bottle of shampoo to bald men. It just wouldn’t make sense.

Regardless of what you may have heard, email marketing is far from being dead. Email Marketing – The Subject Line

Monday, June 6th, 2011

The best advice I can offer anyone regarding subject lines is this: Tell what’s in the email; don’t sell what’s in the email.

All too often marketers will attempt to ’sell’ you on the email they’ve sent in the subject line with typical and way too overused words that include but are not limited to: “Sale”, “Save 10%”, “Shop Now”, etc.

We are all bombarded by an onslaught of advertising everyday. So when it comes to deciding on which email to open and which to trash, it’s no surprise that we typically trash those who add to the daily chorus of “buy, buy, buy!”

So what’s a business to do? You’re in business to make money, right? Your email marketing campaign is designed to increase your business, right? Well then, like the advice I first offered, “tell them what’s in the email…” It’s just that simple.

I work for an email marketing services company that focuses on local advertising, I mention this, because the subject lines we use get quite specific on not only what’s in the email marketing message, but sometimes, the business name sending the message. Example: “Floyd’s Opens Early for Bears Game”. This was a subject line that many of you reading this would find unimpressive. Are you sitting down? We had a 94% open rate! Here’s the back-story. Floyd’s is a bar and restaurant in Chicago, Illinois.

We targeted the general area around Floyd’s, about a 2-mile radius, and sent out the campaign on a Wednesday before a Thursday night game. The body of the email did not offer any specials or deals. It simply was intended to get the word out to the neighborhood about the adjusted hours of operation. By the way, Floyd’s was packed(!) for Thursdays game.

Remember, in the subject line of your next email marketing campaign, stop selling and start telling.

What Makes Email Marketing Effective Or Ineffective?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

You can perform a very fast and repeated communications to broadcast your website, products or services the way you want it and as many times you want. A very detailed campaign can jump start your business with very little cash or maybe just for free.

What are the secrets to a successful campaign? When you send your emails to a group of people interested on your niche or market, the probabilities of getting them to buy what you offer will be very high. Don’t waste your money or time on people that will not get you anywhere. A great tip is that when you are crafting your email message is to put your customers first name in the headline, this will surely get their attention and increase your rate of response by as much as 50%. Also you can keep their interest if you keep mentioning their names throughout the text of the message. You have to be conscious that people get swarmed with emails every day, so you need to make yours different if you want to be seen.

A headline must have all the ingredients to catch the eyes of the reader. People keep forgetting that a title is the first thing a person will see from your message. If it doesn’t click in their minds, your message will be most likely passed over or tossed to the recycle bin. You could have the most interesting and up to date article or message, but if you don’t pull those eyes through your title, your message will never be read.

In your first paragraph you should try to create excitement and a desire to let them know how your product will help them to solve their particular situation or problem. Remember to present benefits, benefits to keep them glued and interested in what you have to say. You need to ask yourself these questions when you are writing; how will they benefit by reading my email? What will they learn? and how I will make their life easier? Think of them and not on you and you will go farther than you think. Remember to use the word “You” and not “I” in your message.

Make it simple and easy for people to read your message. Easy enough for a fifth grader to understand what is your message all about. Test, test and do more testing on your headline, first paragraph but make sure to test one at a time and record your findings. Prepare an effective signature file with your email address, website link, phone number, company name etc, and make it no more than 3 to 4 lines. Humans like to work with humans, don’t get too fancy with voice mails, recording messages, technology is good but nothing better than talking to someone or a face to face conversation. Benefits, benefits, benefits to your customer is what you’re after.

By designing an effective email campaign and keeping what you learned so far in this article will take you farther that you could have never imagined. You may be able to contact thousands and even millions of prospects through a strong email message. Many people have at least one email account, so you stand a big opportunity to reach out and touch many people. But don’t even think for a minute that you are the only one, there are many other that have used these techniques and are refining them every day. Take the time to prepare an outstanding message and give them your unique selling proposition in an informative way and you may be a winner at email marketing.

Email Marketing For Newbies – 3 Surefire Tips For a Successful Email Marketing Campaign

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Email marketing is a great way to convert people on your list to paying customers. But, did you know that the majority of newbie online business owners have no idea of the effectiveness of email marketing?

Email marketing is a simple procedure. A person will read your article that you have written and click through on your link offered at the bottom of the article. This link sends the reader to your squeeze page where they choose to join your list. Then you begin your email campaign by sending them information about your website and products that you offer or other pertinent information that they should know about your niche.

Here are 3 surefire tips that will ensure that your email marketing campaign is a success:

1) Concentrate on techniques that work. The purpose of an email campaign is to build a trust with your subscriber so that they will become your customer. Only write about positive information regarding your product and don’t concentrate on any negative aspects if there are any.

2) Be specific about your product. Write the proper information to the people who signed up for your list — they signed up for a specific topic so give it to them. Don’t send information about Product B to people who signed up to learn about Product A. However, if the information for both products is generic, then giving them new information is OK and it might lead to the sale of another product!

3) Keep Your Customer Informed. Even after the reader becomes your customer and has purchased Product A, continue to send them information about the product. And, if you have another product that supports or can be used in conjunction with product A, then you can slowly begin offering information about product B, C and D.

If product A does what you said it would and helped solve your customer’s problem then you have built up an amazing trust between you which makes the customer more likely to make further purchases from you with your other products.
