What Do I Do About All Those Social & Biz Networking Sites Out There Anyway?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

What a great question, huh? You know how often I get asked this question from my clients or when I’m out networking from random business owners? Hundreds a month. They ask me:

Is it worth it to spend my time on the forums or having profiles on these sites?

o Asking and answering questions?
o Posting articles, events, info, polls?
o Recording and posting videos, sending people requests to join my ‘network’
o Pursuing groups for interaction, advice, etc.?

Whew! I know this can seem daunting and more sites pop up every day right? Aren’t you getting invites all the time asking you to join a friend’s network in some new community or website that you haven’t even heard of before? It’s true, I hear about new ones all the time too.

This is a great new industry for marketers. Marketers who can build their ‘community’ so large (even with unpaid memberships) that then they can attract advertisers who will pay them to put ads on their site – that’s how they make their money!

Others are even so smart to get us to pay them membership fees so that we can have access to talk to even more people in their ‘network’ or ‘community’ by sending eblasts via their ‘network’ or even by emailing others in their system. I know because I pay for a few of the sites I’m on now!

So, what’s my R.O.I. (Return on Investment) you ask?

Well, it’s still to soon to tell for me really but what I can tell you is the following:

o This stuff sucks up a TON of TIME! So I’ve actually started delegating my ‘correspondence’ to a VA to do for me (one that knows what she’s doing on these sites). I wanted to pay someone to spend a good amount of time on these sites interacting to see exactly what response I could get because I know if I did a test with just the amount of time I COULD SPEND then that wouldn’t be a very good test and very hap hazzard approach.

o Many of my website, internet or Search Engine Experts that I work with or know personally have mentioned to me that this kind of marketing is probably NOT worth too much of my time as it might only bring in a very small percentage of my overall prospects and new leads.

o Many people on these sites are so caught up in the building of their ‘network’ or ‘friends list’ that they really have NO IDEA how to utilize them for marketing purposes.

o I’m getting a better response rate and more referrals or direct clients from those sites that I’m a part of due to a personal or business memberships. For example, I’ve been coaching with Ali Brown for over 2 years and in her Silver Mastermind Program she has a forum online where you can interact with other Members and I found that since those people all are followers of Ali’s, they tend to give more credibility to others in the same program and they interact more with other members for business and referrals. I have gotten one consulting client so far doing more interacting in that group in less than 60 days.

So, is it worth it for you to try or to spend your time??? My advice is MAYBE and IT DEPENDS. Sorry, but it really depends on where else you’re spending your time and money FIRST.

There are a TON OF THINGS that many of the people who come to me aren’t even doing in their marketing that are CRUCIAL! So, if you weren’t doing those things first, then I’d say NO, don’t add this yet unless you can delegate it; do the other things first (or even delegate them!). Building your business in a specifically, prioritized manner is the key because if you do one or two things out of order as an entrepreneur you could end up wasting a bunch of money or time!! Trust me or don’t but I will tell you “I told you so” later if you don’t listen to me now – I’m really good at figuring out EXACTLY what YOU need to do NEXT!

If you’d like to know what things you might NOT be doing in your business or in your marketing that could be CRUCIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS then I highly recommend you find a good Marketing Specialist to help you out. A Marketing Specialist will be able to review Social and Business Networking sites and HOW they would play into your overall plan. I know of over 30 of these sites – there’s more than just MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Plaxo, LinkedIn, FastPitch – although these are the most common. (I’m on ALL of these for example, go look me up if you want!)

Good luck in your ONLINE NETWORKING!!

Social Networking & SEO – How To Rank 1st Page On Google Using Free Tactics

Monday, June 6th, 2011

I read a lot of emails from around the world and one of the biggest Questions I see is “How do you tap into the Social Networking sites for business”? I’m here to tell you that there is a Gold Rush happening on the Internet like the one in 1997. That’s when all you needed to do as a marketer and make Internet Money was send someone an email about your business and they thought it was cool. You remember those days when AOL even had a Little mailbox that popped up and said “You’ve got Mail”. If they did that today it would drive you crazy – you’ve got mail, you’ve got mail, you’ve got mail”. Back then it was cool to get an email because you just didn’t get that many. In today’s world that little saying would drive many of us nuts with all the spam mail we get from every angle.

OK let’s talk a little about how much traffic is logging to the Social Networking sites and start from there. Do you realize that the Social Networking site Facebook is catching up to the rest of the Social sites? Results found at Alexa, they are a website tracking company we will use them throughout out this article. Myspace gets as many page views as Google in a month. Youtube gets almost twice the page views as Google. Social Networking Sites are Doubling every 6 months as a whole. Of everyone that is on the Internet 64% uses Myspace, 29% use Facebook, 35% use Youetube, 27% use Wikipdia. Does that sound like a good sign that there are a lot of eyeballs on the Social Networks? 1 million new users join Facebook every week.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the Myspace crowd and Facebook crowd are just a bunch of little kids talking about their girl friends or boy friends and what they did last night. Oh no, the new trend is for the older generation to experience the Social Networking Sites. On Myspace half of their members are over 35 years old. Facebook has 100,000 members that are 64 years of age or older. According to Comscore 2/3 of the Entire Internet uses Social Networking Sites.

4 Big Keys to remember.

Use Social Networking Sites. Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, Bebo and Orkut are huge in Eroupe.

Use the Social Bookmarking sites: Technorati, Stumbleupon, Del.icio, Digg and Reddit are the main sites.

Use Content Sharing Social sites: Whikipedia, Scribd, twitter, Squidoo and gather to submit articles. These sites get picked up by the search engine crawlers that search for text content to match it to specific Key Words. Helps you get ranked high in The Major Search Engine.

Use Video sharing Social sites: Youtube, Flicker, Photobucket, Metacafe these sites are your way to 15 minutes of fame and a great way to get picked up by the search engine crawlers for fresh new content.

Bonus Tip Use the Social Blogging network sites: Movabletype, Blogger, Wordpress

Let’s talk about Adapters for a minute. Adapters are sites that have morphed into the social networking world. EzineArticles, Cafepress, Topix and Imbd.

The best thing about the Social Networking sites or the Social Media Optimization sites is that they are going to get bigger and bigger. I have a lot more I’ll get into in future articles that will get you even deeper into the Internet and Higher in the the Top 3 Search Engines.

Featured Social Networks

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

There are numerable social networks out there. Some have profiles and some don’t. Facebook and MySpace are very similar except that Facebook has a wider appeal to professionals. LinkedIn is strictly for connecting via business profiles. Twitter is a social networking site that is unlike the others so deserves a special mention.

Facebook

This social network began as a way for college students to connect with other college students in their university network. It took its name from the black book that many college students used to keep track of each other. Now, this has outgrown its original roots and allows anyone in, whether you are in a University or not. However, you only have access to the collegiate networks if you are a student attending that particular college or university.

Facebook.com follows the pattern of profile, friends, and community groups. It’s main advantage is that it also has a marketplace where you can sell your products and places to buy advertisement to widen your audience. It is targeted to set up the profile and to use the marketplace for classified ads. There is a way to list links to your websites and RSS feeds on your profile page. Also, using regular updates from your blog or newsfeed can pull people off Facebook to you blog and eventually to the products on your site. Be sure to check out the applications that are installed separately. There are many there that can help you connect more or create better business opportunities.

LinkedIn

This social networking site has a far more business-like and professional flavor. It is noted for helping people network to find new jobs or business opportunities. You will find industry experts and business partners here. There is far less of a capacity to market, but it still is a tremendous place to network with other influential players in your industry. It is well-known and used quite widely.
Twitter

One of the ways to build a network is to constantly stay in touch with people. As your network increase from less than 50 to over hundreds, this task may seem harder and harder to do if you are a member of multiple social networks. That’s where Twitter comes in. You can update people on multiple networking sites all about your moment-to-moment activities, if that’s what you want. There have been people who used this site when they were getting fired or laid off, giving blow by blow details of the termination process, and through the power of social networking had a job again only a few hours later. Why? The people on the social networking sites found their story so compelling it created a vortex of energy to try to help this individual. Twitter has a way of hooking people in to a constant stream of news, much like a soap-opera.
