It’s the music we love and the device we play it from. But, when it comes down to it, the most important aspect of it all, is how we’re going to listen to the sound. This is a world of music, and with a world of music, there are headphones. To date, millions of people use them. From little Johnny who’s seven, to grandpa Joe who’s seventy, everyone can enjoy a pair.
Full size stereo headphones are designed to fit comfortably on the head of any person while providing extra padding for additional comfort. You may not see too many people walking around with full size stereo headphones as they use their MP3 players and iPods. This is because full size headphones are meant to deliver full size sound and will need a source to deliver enough power to produce it. You may use your home stereo receiver as your source and a nice pair of full size headphones will deliver the utmost, amazing sound possible. From deep, rich bass to screaming highs and clear mids, it’s like a combination of being at a concert and a recording studio at the time. The sound produced can easily cause “headphone obsession”, better known as someone listening to music for hours on end. But if you have the volume turned up quite a bit, it’s always good not to listen for too long over a long period of time. A super lightweight magnesium frame makes them extremely comfortable while 50mm nano-composite high-definition drivers pump out sound that’s truly amazing. You can always buy a 3.5mm to 2.5mm headphone adapter so you may use them with your portable audio device, but the sound is going to be very low quality. These are and always will be best used with a high-powered home stereo receiver.
Wireless headphones are perfect for anyone who’s looking to “rid off” the wire. Have you ever walked away from your stereo receiver as the music cuts off and sometimes plays overly loud throughout the entire system because the headphone jack was pulled out? We’ve all been there. Wireless headphones eliminate this problem and allow you to walk around freely. Most wireless headphones last many hours before a recharge is needed, at which point you would simply set them down on their base unit. For anyone who is confused about what a base charger is, it’s similar to your house phone charger.
Mid-size headphones can be used with portable audio devices and home stereo receivers. These may include a headphone adapter so you may switch easily from an MP3 player to a home stereo receiver or even a computer so you may listen to your music library stored on your computer. Being so versatile, mid-size headphones are probably used more so than full size and wireless. The price range is going to be less as well. They may not deliver the ultra loud sound capabilities of full size and cordless convenience of wireless, but the versatility makes them worth the purchase. Some mid-size headphones include and in-line volume control switch which allows you to increase/decrease volume conveniently and even an in-line mute button to pause all sound if you need to allow a conversation without taking them off or hear something else for a minute.
You can spend as little or as much as you want for different brands and models, but there’s always going to be really nice, cheap headphones that you can buy for pretty much any music playing device.

Brown is the new black, 40 is the new 30 and luxuries are the new necessity. While the down-trodden economy has the general public scaling back on budgets and kicking many fun and non-mandatory expenses to the curb (family vacations, golf lessons, dining out and acrylic nails, just to name a few), items like big screen LCD televisions, multi-function cell phones and assorted tech gadgets are proving to have real staying power.
Although personal electronic items took a small hit in 2009 (sales were roughly 8% lower than in ‘08), the industry didn’t see the degree of recession related damages that plagued the U.S. automobile market, apparel retailers or even real estate. Apparently as long as your friends can get in touch with you on your iPhone, a permanent address might not be entirely essential.
Many employers, conscious of the environmental and financial benefits of encouraging work-at-home options for many staff members, all but demand the use of versatile smart phones. Their multi-function capabilities allow professionals to maintain constant contact with headquarters and facilitate seamless communication with co-workers.
Despite the many assorted consumer budget cuts, it’s estimated that smart phones may rake in close to $18 billion in sales over the coming year, taking over approximately 17% of the market share according to Forrester Research and AdAge.
If consumer trends play out according to plan, 2010 should see the consumer electronics industry raking in an estimated $165 billion. While this figure doesn’t rival the record $178+ billion that was sold in 2008, it’s an impressive figure nonetheless, and a slight improvement over 2009 numbers.
When it comes to personal technology, cell phones and big screen TVs included, the U.S. consumer is all about the next invention. We’ve seen folks stand in line and shell out close to 1k for the newest phone, just for the chance to be the first one on their block to show off the latest and greatest high-tech item. Keeping up with the Joneses means being able to call, text, email and Google them anywhere, anytime, on one sleek little device.
Of course, if we’re cutting out extravagant excursions, regular jaunts to the movie theaters and pricey holiday trips, we’d better make the most of our at-home entertainment with a large screen TV. The bigger the better! Along with the return of family entertainment at home, many people are rediscovering the television as a form of education. Especially when paired with comprehensive satellite TV packages, people can learn how to sew, cook, train a horse, paint the house and just about any other imaginable endeavor short of neurosurgery with the help of televised instruction. Modern day TVs are really more of a lifestyle item, transcending the category of luxury or extravagant add-on.
What to watch for this year? This summer should see Sony 3-D TVs available by late June. Costs will reportedly be only incrementally higher than the 2-D predecessors. Naturally, 3-D Blue-ray players are on the way as well. Sony will also introduce the “Dash”; this table top web browser makes online searches almost instantaneous. Computer trend-setter Apple is unveiling a small, thing tablet computer – the next innovation in more compact netbook technology.
When we really look closely at the costs for travel, theater tickets, restaurant meals and the many multi-layered benefits of smart phone technology and versatile at-home entertainment, the latest technology could prove to be a money-saver in the long run. Add in the fact that families who take advantage of these items are better able to optimize communication and spend more quality time together and the far-reaching benefits may well be priceless.

Ok, I have to come clean and tell you that with all the buzz about those little Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters, I got curious and I went looking through the stores to see if I could find any.
I mean, you see ads all over the place selling the hamsters and their play sets and that’s all the kids have been talking about lately. Zhu Zhu pets with names like Chunk and Mr. Squiggles and Winky and they have these great toys that accessorize them. I saw one that was a pool area. Talk about fun looking.
So, my husband and I went walking around the local Wal-Mart last week and, by golly, they had a few of the toys in stock. My husband is as bad as I am, we pushed little noses to hear what the sounds were, touched the soft fur, and oohed and aahed over how cute they are and generally just looked over everything that came with them.
That’s when we saw that there wasn’t only one big funhouse that came with them, but THREE VERSIONS!
Can you say adorable?
There is a Disco room version that has a dance floor area complete with DJ desk, chairs and couches on the side and a disco ball right there in the room. With the way that these little critters scoot n’ scurry around, it’s a perfect place for them to play.
Then there is a Movie room version (pink top) with a big old comfy chair with cushions to sit on, side tables, and a big old TV area that most guys would envy in their own living room. Again, plenty of room to wiggle and bump around in.
Then, we finish with the Swimming Pool version (blue top). OMG. It comes with little floats and lounge chairs, a little diving board and a potted plant to the side. A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E! I guess you could say we went “gaga” over that version as something about it just grabbed us like we were little kids.
Now I have to tell you, our “baby” is 20 years old! We weren’t looking at these for anyone else but us! I know, can you believe it? Two grown adults and we spent over 30 minutes in the Wal-Mart toy aisle looking over what the Zhu Zhu pets had to offer.
I’ll come clean; we walked out with two pets, Mr. Squiggles (a beautiful tan color) and Winky (black and white), the slide that attaches to the play set, and the swimming pool version of the funhouse. Oh, and I almost forgot, my husband HAD to get a little set of swimming clothes for HIS pet so he’d match the swimming pool.
We got home and, of course, had to put it together (you never know when kids might come over and want to look at it, right? Even though we don’t have any grandkids? Hmmm) and then we had even more fun watching our cat pounce around the toys like he wanted to get in there but wasn’t sure what was going on.
Both hamsters were moving around and making the cutest noises, bumping into the sides of the funhouse and whirling around making our cat pounce and then stalk to a different spot and watch those little intruders in HIS house.
Yes, these Zhu Zhu Pets are fun, but they aren’t only for the “short kids”, they are also fun for the “tall kids” and probably any “real pets” you may already have in your home.
Anyways, we now have “toys” available for when we have small children come to visit our house.
At least, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!:)

Despite a whole heap of hype and pre-release promotion, UK buyers are still waiting to see the formal release of Barnes and Noble’s much coveted Noon e-reader. Barnes and Noble are yet to confirm a release date for people to buy Nook UK side, but expectant customers are hopeful that 2010 will be the year.
It is possible for UK customers to get their hands on the Nook, the only sticking point being that Nook comes with AT&T wireless, which isn’t available in the UK. This won’t stop customers downloading, uploading, storing, swapping and lending books with their Nook, it just means they’ll have to do it a little more slowly.
So Why All The Fuss?
Nook is being hailed by a lot of people as the new industry standard for e-readers, overtaking Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s Reader – but is this actually true?
To a point it is true. Nook does have a superior reading experience, with a paper page like display. It also offers super quick downloads and the option of book sharing. So it is quite a leap forward from the previous generation of e-readers.
But Apple’s Tablet is on the horizon, which is set to once again redefine the way we consume media and Amazon’s Kindle DX with its mega wide screen certainly goes some way to gain ground on Nook. But as it currently stands – Nook is in the lead. Just.
And the key phrase there is ‘as it stands’. This is the gadget industry we’re talking about here, things change over night and standards are redefined with every new product launch.
So it worth the investment?
Yes, I would say buy Nook. I’d even say buy Nook UK side too, because it is currently as advanced feature wise as you can get. Tablet aside, it won’t be another 12 months before anybody redefines the use of e-readers, they’ll just refine the functionality, so your Nook may be slightly passe this time next year, but it will still be of equivalent functionality as the latest models.
I hope you found this article informative. Remember, do your research and you’re sure to find the right e-reader for you.
