Email Marketing – The Subject Line

June 6th, 2011

The best advice I can offer anyone regarding subject lines is this: Tell what’s in the email; don’t sell what’s in the email.

All too often marketers will attempt to ’sell’ you on the email they’ve sent in the subject line with typical and way too overused words that include but are not limited to: “Sale”, “Save 10%”, “Shop Now”, etc.

We are all bombarded by an onslaught of advertising everyday. So when it comes to deciding on which email to open and which to trash, it’s no surprise that we typically trash those who add to the daily chorus of “buy, buy, buy!”

So what’s a business to do? You’re in business to make money, right? Your email marketing campaign is designed to increase your business, right? Well then, like the advice I first offered, “tell them what’s in the email…” It’s just that simple.

I work for an email marketing services company that focuses on local advertising, I mention this, because the subject lines we use get quite specific on not only what’s in the email marketing message, but sometimes, the business name sending the message. Example: “Floyd’s Opens Early for Bears Game”. This was a subject line that many of you reading this would find unimpressive. Are you sitting down? We had a 94% open rate! Here’s the back-story. Floyd’s is a bar and restaurant in Chicago, Illinois.

We targeted the general area around Floyd’s, about a 2-mile radius, and sent out the campaign on a Wednesday before a Thursday night game. The body of the email did not offer any specials or deals. It simply was intended to get the word out to the neighborhood about the adjusted hours of operation. By the way, Floyd’s was packed(!) for Thursdays game.

Remember, in the subject line of your next email marketing campaign, stop selling and start telling.

What Makes Email Marketing Effective Or Ineffective?

June 6th, 2011

You can perform a very fast and repeated communications to broadcast your website, products or services the way you want it and as many times you want. A very detailed campaign can jump start your business with very little cash or maybe just for free.

What are the secrets to a successful campaign? When you send your emails to a group of people interested on your niche or market, the probabilities of getting them to buy what you offer will be very high. Don’t waste your money or time on people that will not get you anywhere. A great tip is that when you are crafting your email message is to put your customers first name in the headline, this will surely get their attention and increase your rate of response by as much as 50%. Also you can keep their interest if you keep mentioning their names throughout the text of the message. You have to be conscious that people get swarmed with emails every day, so you need to make yours different if you want to be seen.

A headline must have all the ingredients to catch the eyes of the reader. People keep forgetting that a title is the first thing a person will see from your message. If it doesn’t click in their minds, your message will be most likely passed over or tossed to the recycle bin. You could have the most interesting and up to date article or message, but if you don’t pull those eyes through your title, your message will never be read.

In your first paragraph you should try to create excitement and a desire to let them know how your product will help them to solve their particular situation or problem. Remember to present benefits, benefits to keep them glued and interested in what you have to say. You need to ask yourself these questions when you are writing; how will they benefit by reading my email? What will they learn? and how I will make their life easier? Think of them and not on you and you will go farther than you think. Remember to use the word “You” and not “I” in your message.

Make it simple and easy for people to read your message. Easy enough for a fifth grader to understand what is your message all about. Test, test and do more testing on your headline, first paragraph but make sure to test one at a time and record your findings. Prepare an effective signature file with your email address, website link, phone number, company name etc, and make it no more than 3 to 4 lines. Humans like to work with humans, don’t get too fancy with voice mails, recording messages, technology is good but nothing better than talking to someone or a face to face conversation. Benefits, benefits, benefits to your customer is what you’re after.

By designing an effective email campaign and keeping what you learned so far in this article will take you farther that you could have never imagined. You may be able to contact thousands and even millions of prospects through a strong email message. Many people have at least one email account, so you stand a big opportunity to reach out and touch many people. But don’t even think for a minute that you are the only one, there are many other that have used these techniques and are refining them every day. Take the time to prepare an outstanding message and give them your unique selling proposition in an informative way and you may be a winner at email marketing.

Email Marketing For Newbies – 3 Surefire Tips For a Successful Email Marketing Campaign

June 6th, 2011

Email marketing is a great way to convert people on your list to paying customers. But, did you know that the majority of newbie online business owners have no idea of the effectiveness of email marketing?

Email marketing is a simple procedure. A person will read your article that you have written and click through on your link offered at the bottom of the article. This link sends the reader to your squeeze page where they choose to join your list. Then you begin your email campaign by sending them information about your website and products that you offer or other pertinent information that they should know about your niche.

Here are 3 surefire tips that will ensure that your email marketing campaign is a success:

1) Concentrate on techniques that work. The purpose of an email campaign is to build a trust with your subscriber so that they will become your customer. Only write about positive information regarding your product and don’t concentrate on any negative aspects if there are any.

2) Be specific about your product. Write the proper information to the people who signed up for your list — they signed up for a specific topic so give it to them. Don’t send information about Product B to people who signed up to learn about Product A. However, if the information for both products is generic, then giving them new information is OK and it might lead to the sale of another product!

3) Keep Your Customer Informed. Even after the reader becomes your customer and has purchased Product A, continue to send them information about the product. And, if you have another product that supports or can be used in conjunction with product A, then you can slowly begin offering information about product B, C and D.

If product A does what you said it would and helped solve your customer’s problem then you have built up an amazing trust between you which makes the customer more likely to make further purchases from you with your other products.

Email Marketing Strategy To Motivate the Opt-In

June 6th, 2011

When you first start out in internet marketing you are probably going to focus on building your site, developing quality content and then doing all the leg work to build links and get your pages ranked. You are Holy Grail is to get on page 1 of Google right? Well what happens when that becomes a reality and you have a steady stream of visits? Are you counting on your content alone to capture their attention? Would it not be great if you could find a way to keep contact with them?

Well there is and you are going to want to consider creating your own email marketing list and apply your own email marketing strategy.

If you’re thinking “If email is such a great marketing tool why don’t I just buy a list” then know this. First of all finding a legitimate email list broker is getting more and more difficult and buying the wrong list could get you in trouble with the CAN SPAM law.

Secondly, the big problem with these lists is that they are not targeted leads. They didn’t specifically request what you have to offer. You could get lucky and maybe a few might be interested but chances are that most of them won’t be.

So what is the solution?

Build your own list.

That might sound a bit daunting but it really isn’t. Besides, which list would you rather own. Eighty addresses where the subscriber specifically opted in for your email or a 1,000 email list full of people that never heard of you before? Would you have more fun and interact more at a party where you knew everybody, or at a place where you knew nobody and they didn’t know you?

It’s all about building relationships.

So how do you motivate that visitor from Google to sign up for your list? Well you want to reward them in some way and one of the best ways is to give that visitor something of value for free.

Free downloads.

There are tons of free stuff that you can give away to your list. You can give away things like free articles, free PDF, videos, software downloads, free ebooks, and free templates. Think of something that your market would be interested in a give it away to help build up your list. You can put the freebies on your website and make it password protected so only your list will know the password. You keep giving away free stuff to your subscribers and that will keep them happy and keep them coming back for more.

Write your very own Ebook.

You could write something that gives your subscribers what they are interested in. A good ebook is likely to pull in many subscribers. Many successful marketers use this one tactic to get people to subscribe to their list. If you think writing an ebook is difficult, think again. After all you’re not going after the Pulitzer Prize you just want to deliver valuable information.

You can start by writing 15 articles that are 1000 to 1500 words long that would benefit your readers. These articles can cover something generic or you can break it down into smaller niches. The important thing to remember is to offer them quality content and your writing is original

Place all of your articles into notepad or Microsoft Word. And then create a nice looking graphic design as the cover. Be sure to include your name, the name of your business, your business address, and a statement advising that the contents are copyright protected. For even more traffic tell your readers to refer others so they can get a free copy too.

When you are finished with your document you can then turn it into a portable document format file using a free PDF converter. Presto you are the proud author of an ebook.

If you are not that great at writing then you might want to think about outsourcing the whole process to someone else or even shopping the better PLR sites for a ready made book.

The more you cater to your list the better off you will be in the long run and the more money you will make with this email marketing strategy.

If You’re Not Using Email Marketing to Your Advantage, You’re Missing Out!

June 6th, 2011

The professional-looking emails that come to your inbox are actually bulk email ad campaigns and they are specifically-targeted marketing emails that are sent to private customer lists. It isn’t hard to send that type of email at all – you just have to know how to do it. You can easily send them to your current customers, past customers, potential customers, or anyone else you think would like hearing about your marketing promotions.

This is one of the most affordable, and highly-effective, types of advertising. If you’re not using email marketing to your advantage, you’re missing out! You can send this professional advertising to as many customers as you want to. The cost should be the same… regardless of whether you send your advertisement to 1 person or 1,000 people.

It’s very simple to make these advertising campaigns work for you! Your company can send these promotional emails out even if you don’t know a thing about coding.

There are many web companies that can help you setup and do your email campaigns, Be careful, though because some places charge you a small fortune to get the campaigns set up. Be sure you use a trustworthy company to help you get your marketing campaign set up. The process is generally very simple and each company doing web promotions may have different ways to accomplish this but for explaining purposes, we’ll explain it the way we do at Hunter Creative Group when we set up ad campaigns for companies. This is our typical routine for setting up a promotional marketing campaign for businesses:

  1. You send in your marketing/promotion information details.

  2. A custom-made sales page is created that will include all of your advertising information.

  3. The advertising copy is sent to you to inspect it and approve it.

  4. If any corrections need to be made, the promotional advertisement are updated to reflect the changes.

  5. The ad is approved.

  6. With the ad approved, you are sent specific instructions on how to send the advertisement to all of your specific target audience at once. It’s really just as simple as sending an email.

The reason that we recommend that you be the one to send your own promotions out is because it is more private. No company will get their hands on your marketing list (to be resold). Customers do not like it when their personal information is sold or given out – and they HATE getting spam and unsolicited mail. So, guard your customer list with your life!:-) When you send out your promotional advertisements, you retain full control over who will get this marketing promotion and your customers remain private.

However, if you don’t want to send out your own promotions, just ask your web company to send them out for you, on your behalf. I would also suggest making it very clear that your customer list is to remain confidential. If the web company cannot guarantee that, then walk away and find another company. Losing customers to an information leak is not worth the headache. Always use a web company that you can trust to stand behind their word!
